How to Backup and Decrypt DVDs with Free Software
If you want to backup your DVD collection or watch them on your computer or mobile device, you need to decrypt and copy them to your hard disk. There are many software tools that can help you with this task, but some of them are paid or outdated. In this article, we will show you how to use three free software tools: DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0, DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15 and RipIt4Me 1.7.1.0 to backup and decrypt any DVD you own.
DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0
DVD Decrypter is a free tool that can decrypt and copy a DVD to your PC's hard disk[^1^]. It can also re-encode the DVD to MPEG1 (VCD) or DivX formats if you want to reduce the file size. DVD Decrypter can handle any type of DVD protection, such as CSS, Region Code, RCE, Macrovision, etc.
To use DVD Decrypter, you need to download and install it from here. Then, insert the DVD you want to backup into your DVD drive and launch the program. You will see a window like this:
Here, you can choose the source drive (the one with your DVD), the destination folder (where you want to save the decrypted files), and the mode (ISO or File). ISO mode will create an image file of the entire DVD, while File mode will copy the individual files and folders of the DVD. We recommend using ISO mode for simplicity and compatibility.
Then, click on the big button at the bottom to start the decryption process. Depending on the size and speed of your DVD, this may take some time. When it's done, you will have a decrypted copy of your DVD on your hard disk.
DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15
DVD Shrink is another free tool that can backup and compress DVDs[^3^]. It can also remove unwanted features from the DVD, such as subtitles, audio tracks, menus, etc. DVD Shrink can work with any type of DVD protection, but it may not be able to handle some newer DVDs that have advanced encryption methods.
To use DVD Shrink, you need to download and install it from here. Then, launch the program and click on the Open Files button at the top. Browse to the folder where you saved the decrypted files from DVD Decrypter and select them. You will see a window like this:
Here, you can see the structure of your DVD and how much space it takes on your hard disk. You can also see how much space you can save by compressing it with different quality settings. You can adjust the compression level by dragging the slider at the top right corner.
You can also edit the content of your DVD by clicking on the Re-author button at the top left corner. This will allow you to select only the parts of the DVD that you want to keep, such as the main movie or specific chapters. You can also remove unwanted audio tracks or subtitles by clicking on the Compression Settings button at the bottom right corner.
When you are satisfied with your settings, click on the Backup! button at the top right corner. You will see a window like this:
Here, you can choose where to save your compressed files and what format to use. You can either create an ISO image file or a VIDEO_TS folder with individual files. You can also choose to burn your files directly to a blank DVD if you have a DVD burner installed.
Then, click on OK to aa16f39245
